Community Christmas Dinner
The Senior Citizens Foundation of Shelter Island provided a gift of $1,000 toward the cost of the main courses that were prepared by volunteers at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Tom Hundgen and JoAnn Kirkland coordinated the event. Despite torrential rain, home cooks and Island businesses delivered side dishes and cookies. A total of 65 meals were delivered to Island seniors by 20 volunteer drivers, some dressed as Santa and others singing Christmas Carols, on Friday, December 25th.

Our brand new bus, The Silver Streak, a 20-passenger, wheelchair-accessible, Starcraft-modified, Ford bus was delivered on Thursday, August 20th. It arrived at the North Ferry terminal and was driven first to Town Hall and then to the Senior Activity Center. At Town Hall, SCF President Chris Lewis presented the bus keys to Supervisor Gerry Siller. At the Senior Center, Senior Services Director Laurie Fanelli christened the bus and all guests enjoyed an afternoon treat of strawberry shortcakes and iced tea, while staying socially distanced.
